The
Independent Junior Fire Engine Company No. 3 is always looking
for good volunteers. You can help serve your community in many
ways as a volunteer fire fighter or a volunteer administrative
member.
As a
volunteer fire fighter you can receive free college-level
training in many areas of fire suppression, hazardous materials,
rescue operations, and emergency medical services. Your training
and skills can even lead to a career in the fire or emergency
medical service.
As a
volunteer administrative member you can help your fire company
and your community with other duties at the station such as
maintenance of the building and grounds, fund raising, working
with our own “Sparky the Fire Dog” teaching children about fire
safety, and working with our antique fire engine in parades.
Whether you are a volunteer fire fighter or an administrative
member, you get added benefits in belonging to our company.
•
First, the State of Maryland provides for a tax reduction for
active volunteers of $3,500 on their annual Maryland income tax
return.
•
Second, the Washington County Board of County Commissioners
provides for a monthly pension plan for active volunteers, with
the requisite number of years service, when they reach a minimum
of age 62.
•
Third, there is the satisfaction of helping your neighbors and
your community; a feeling that everyone can enjoy.
To start your service as a volunteer with
us, simply print out and complete this
application,
mail it with the applicable lifetime membership.
Once
your application has been received, it will be presented at the
next company meeting, the City of Hagerstown Fire Department
will also review it, and it will be voted on at the following
company meeting. The company’s membership committee may contact
you if there are any questions. You will be notified of your
election, be given your membership materials, and invited to our
monthly company meetings on the second Thursday of each month.
If you are already qualified as a fire fighter you will be
contacted to meet with our Captain to be fitted for your
personal protective fear. The Captain is also your contact to
register for all training and classes. |
